01 — The Problem

Everyday products hide harmful practices — and consumers can't tell the difference.

Gen Z and millennials want to shop ethically, but high costs, limited accessibility, and greenwashing make it nearly impossible. Information is hidden, complex, or dispersed across unreliable sources. The result? Decision fatigue and distrust.

The chart shows 160 million children (ages 5–17) involved in child labor worldwide, with agriculture remaining the main sector by a large margin.

02 — Research Findings

Through user interviews and market analysis, I uncovered why ethical shopping remains inaccessible for most people.

Information Gap

Product sourcing info is hidden, complex, or dispersed across multiple unreliable sources. Users can't verify sustainability claims.

Greenwashing

Brands market products as "sustainable" without proof. Users have no way to distinguish genuine ethical practices from marketing.

Decision Fatigue

Too many options and conflicting information overwhelm users. People default to convenience over ethics when the cognitive load is too high.

03 — The Solution

Shift user behavior — make the right purchase feel great.

Shift user behavior

Make the right purchase, feel great.

Fairmis gives users the metrics and impact data they need to make informed decisions, turning complex ethical data into actionable insights at the point of purchase.

Easy Access

Scan any product barcode for instant access to ethical sourcing data and company practices.

Moral Score

Complex sustainability data distilled into a simple 0–5 score for quick decision-making.

Price Compare

Compare prices across stores so ethical choices don't have to mean paying more.

04 — Design Language

A warm, earthy visual system rooted in sustainability — natural greens, organic shapes, and clear typography designed to build trust and reduce decision fatigue.

05 — From Anxiety to Control

Key screens showing the user journey — from scanning a product to understanding its ethical impact and making an informed purchase decision.

06 — What I Took Away

Simplify complexity

People don't check the details of products. By making data simple to digest, they're more likely to make the right purchase.

Trust through transparency

The Moral Score was the key insight: replacing vague labels with a data-backed 0–5 score gave users confidence in their choices.

Next step

Provide easy access for companies to change labor and environmental practices through transparent consumer pressure.
